MERCHANTS BUSY WITH THRIFTY CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS At Carlton - NuWay And Howell Clubs Howell Program Will Be Given Sunday Afternoon At 5 O’clock; Carlton Sunday Night At 8:30; Nuway Next Thursday. A Quiet Time on C hristmas Eve” will be presented at the Howell Club House Sunday af ternoon at 5 o’clock by the chil dren of the community. This is a playlet featuring' a pageant of the ‘‘Nativity”, ilusic is under the direction of Miss Fannie At the Carlton Sunday even ing at 8:30 o’clock ‘‘The Christ mas King” will be given in pag eantry. A choir carefully trained by Miss Minnie Coleman will be a special feature. Mrs. R.F. Smith will accompany at the organ. The closing feature of tile program is a tribute to “Our Seiviee Men” with a special prayer by the Rev. E. S. Elliott. At the Nuway Thursday (ev ening at 7 P. M. “The Little Shepherd will be given. This is a play illustrating the beauty of service. The familiar story ac cording to St. Luke is leproduced picturesqually. Mrs. I. Garland Sherrill is in charge of the music The Nuway choir, composed of young ladies of Nuway commu nity, will render accompanying music. Christmas Singlfsg'at ^ vne Houser Club fj/ \ arlow Dellinger, director of fie Song Lovers Choir, will give a program of Christmas music and singing at the Rhyne Hou ser Club house on Tuesday ev ening, December 21st This pro pram will consist entirely of Christmas singing. Dellinger call ed up Fred Neill and Red Mur phy Wednesday to come out and kill a hog for him. The boys got together and went over to do the work and it was a 'days work, when the hog was /killed and dressed it tipped the scales at 685 pounds. This id the largest one we hav'e had reported and in f^ct, the hoys said i! was the largest one they had ever but chered. He was married to Miss Paunne Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Charlie Baker May 11. '912. He has been overseas for the past eight months, having ailed April 15, 1942. He attended the Chcrryville public schools and before enlist-, in^ in the Navy was employed hv the Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation. He was 22 years of age. Waco Soldier Re^ ported Missing In Pacific Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. White sides of Waco received a tele gram Thursday nigiit informing them that their son, Pfc. Joseph A. Whitesides, Jr., United Stales Marine Corps, is missing in act ion in the Southwest Pacific theatre of operations. No details were given hut the telegram stated that the parents would be notified when further information is received. Pfc. Whitesides entered the Marines in July 1942, and took training at Parris Island, S C., New River and Camp Elliott. He left for overseas service in Feb ruary this year. Last letter recei ved by his narents was dated No vember 13. A graduate of __\Vaco high school in the class of 1940, lie was married to . Miss Marjorie Froneberger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Froneberger of Oherryville. Mrs. Whitesides is now making her home in Char lottc. Post Office To Stay Open Until 5r00 Sat.
